Mark Boone - Biography

Born in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Mark grew up in Ottawa, Ontario, the second youngest of five children. Mark's parents produced musical theatre for twenty years touring throughout eastern Canada. He and his siblings grew up in a creative environment, sharing the experience of performance and production.

Mark began writing and recording on a 4-track at the local conservatory at the age of thirteen. He got his first gig as a producer at the age of fifteen. By the time he was eighteen he had already written and recorded over a thousand songs. He had also performed in over a dozen productions to over half a million people. He developed confidence performing difficult material like the title role in Andrew Lloyd Weber’s “Jesus Christ Superstar”.

In the last few years of the theatre company Mark's role shifted to music producer. He formed Wired Skies Productions to produce music accompaniment for shows including “Godspel” and Harry Chapin’s “Cotton Patch”. He created the band Wired Skies with his childhood friend Rick Martin, as an outlet for their original material. With their first album In Fear Of 'K', they built a hometown following with radio airplay, and they shared the studio with many local artists including One to One, Eight Seconds and Alanis Morisette. Impressing a local DJ, Mark got an opportunity to rap on a series of radio commercials. Mark dissolved both the band and production company to pursue his education.

Mark moved to London, Ontario, where he attended Fanshawe College's elite Music Industry Arts Program. The opportunity allowed him to engineer and produce dozens of acts. He is the only student to ever receive three diplomas in three years, in music production, engineering and digital applications. One of his teachers was legendary producer Jack Richardson (Bob Seger, Alice Cooper, The Guess Who). While in school, Mark wrote and produced the theme song for Toronto's "From All Walks of Life" walkathon for AIDS research and relief.

While performing weekly acoustic shows Mark recorded his first solo album The Pop Narcotic. He performed all of the instruments and vocals and recorded the album on an 8 track in his home studio. The Pop Narcotic features contributions from internationally acclaimed artists Thomas Dolby and author Ken Follet. The album won awards from EMI Canada and the CMPA-Canadian Music Publishers Association. Mark directed two videos, "Gun" and "Novelty Song" to promote the album.

After moving to Toronto, Mark returned to the stage with a rock trio as boone. The band recorded three songs for the new album with financial aid from FACTOR. He also began working with a variety of rock, reggae, r&b and hiphop artists. The raw energy of the rock trio and his recent experiences with reggae, r&b and hiphop provide his new album Side 3 with an urban intensity.

Mark recently finished engineering and producing an album with his younger brother Billy Boone. Mark's songs are now being performed by aritists all over the world. With a growing international audience, he is looking forward to promoting his new album Side 3.
